Privacy policy
Vivavoce is made by KHStudios LLC. We don't run accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and your progress stays on your iPhone.
In short: your progress stays on your iPhone. Speech is turned into text by Apple. Conversations with the tutor go to Anthropic through our server, which keeps usage counts but not what you said. Apple handles payment, and we never see your Apple Account.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your progress: the courses you've started, words you've met, review cards, finished missions and missions you've written.
- Your settings: your reason for learning, daily minutes and reading aids.
This is stored in the app's own storage on your device and is included in your iPhone backups according to your backup settings. You can erase it at any time with You › Start over, or by deleting the app.
Microphone and speech recognition
When you hold the mic to answer out loud, Vivavoce uses Apple's speech recognition to turn what you say into text. Depending on your device and language, Apple may process that audio on its servers, under Apple's privacy policy. Vivavoce doesn't record or keep your audio. The tutor's voice is played with voices installed on your iPhone.
You can turn microphone and speech recognition access off in iPhone Settings › Vivavoce and type your answers instead.
The live tutor, lessons and stories
The tutor is played by Claude, a model made by Anthropic, and Claude also writes each unit's lesson and story. To do that, the app sends the text needed for each request: what you say or type in a mission, the scene and the conversation so far, or the unit being written.
- With Vivavoce Premium, these requests go through a small KHStudios LLC server at khstudiosllc.com, which passes them to Anthropic's API. The server doesn't keep your conversations. It keeps, per subscription and per day, how many missions, lessons and stories you've used and how many tokens they took, so it can apply the daily limits and track costs. Anthropic handles the text under its commercial terms and privacy policy.
- If you add your own Anthropic API key in You › Your own API key, requests go straight from your iPhone to Anthropic, under your Anthropic account, and nothing passes through our server. Your key is stored in your iPhone's Keychain and is only ever sent to Anthropic.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your name, email, Apple Account or payment details. To prove a subscription to our server, the app sends the signed transaction the App Store gives it, which includes a transaction ID, the plan, its dates and your App Store country.
When you subscribe, we keep a record of the terms the subscription screen showed you, when you accepted them, the transaction ID and whether you asked for a reminder. Consumer law in places such as California asks us to keep this record of your consent for at least three years.
Trial and renewal reminders are notifications scheduled on your iPhone. They're only sent if you allow notifications.
What we collect
Only what's described above: subscription transaction details, consent records, and daily usage counts. Vivavoce has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking code, and we don't sell or share data. If you contact us by email, we use your message only to reply. To ask us to delete the records tied to your subscription, email us with the transaction ID from your App Store receipt.
When the app is distributed through the App Store or TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us if you've chosen to share them with app developers in your iPhone settings.
Children
Vivavoce isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
